Juan Foyth is going to have play time, but it won’t be for Tottenham Hotspur this season.
According to Fabrizio Romano and Charlie Eccleshare, the Argentine defender is heading to sunny Spain on a one-year loan with La Liga. Villarreal.
Juan Foyth set to join Villarreal on loan with option to buy [€15m] of Tottenham. Final details to be settled soon. Villarreal will pay 100% of his salary. Foyth turned down 2 offers from Italy to join Villarreal #THFC #transfers

Understand #THFC defender Juan Foyth is loaned to Villarreal. Spurs had hoped for a permanent sale.
Too bad it’s not settled for Foyth yet. I think he has a lot to offer. Remember in particular that he was excellent, one mistake aside, in the 3-0 victory over Dortmund in February 2019.

Romano and Eccleshare report the same details of the loan. Villarreal accepted a one-year loan with an option to buy 15 million euros at term. There’s no word on any triggers that would make it a must buy, and given the reporters involved, we believe there aren’t. Villarreal will also pay 100% of Foyth’s salary, although that’s not much of a problem as he only earns £ 21,000 a week.
As Eccleshare mentioned in his tweet, it just didn’t work out for Foyth at Tottenham. He showed promise in punctual starts, but also showed inexperience at times and was prone to make a mistake. The argument is that he needed more playing time to learn, but that’s a tall order when a club tries to lock down. Champions League year after year.
This agreement makes a lot of sense to everyone. It is clear that Foyth is not in Mourinho’s plans and Spurs need to make a small place on their list of foreign players. Foyth wants playing time and Villarreal badly needs a defender. Everyone seems to be a winner in this agreement.
The spurs are not yet completed this window. They need to clear another foreign player spot and maybe two if they keep playing hard for Skirinar. Looks like it’s gonna happen on deadline day. Expect a busy weekend!
