The High Court ordered the government to include the historic Bangabandhu speech of March 7 in school, college and university textbooks so they can learn more about its meaning.

The HC today asked the government to include the speech, through a committee of experts.

The panel of experts will determine how Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech will be included in the textbooks, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Abdullah-Al-Mahmud Bashar told the Daily Star.

The HC also ordered the government to complete the construction of the monument on Bangabandhu by delivering the March 7 speech to Suhrawardy Udyan as soon as possible.

HC FRM magistrate Nazmul Ahasan and Judge Shahed Nuruddin delivered the verdict after holding a hearing on the petition filed by Supreme Court attorney Bashir Ahmed in November 2017, seeking the necessary guidance in this regard.

The reasons for the verdict of the HC could not be known immediately because the text was not made public today.

During today’s hearing, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin told the court that the government will work according to his guidelines on this issue.

On February 25 of last year, the HC ordered the government to declare March 7 “National Historic Day” and to publish a notice in the gazette in this regard.
