After a few days of teasing on their social networks, Charlotte fc has officially announced the signing of its first defender. Charlotte FC had been relatively silent before the deal was announced. Fans had grown anxious as they waited to hear something new from the club.

This turmoil culminated over the weekend when the Charlotte FC social media team also changed their Twitter handle, “So we’ll hear from the players this week,” and their bio gave a hint of his nationality to using the Polish flag. An interesting and lengthy way to make the announcement.

A campaign most likely aimed at stoking the conversation around Charlotte FC after having been silent in recent weeks. Discussions within the squad quickly escalated with fans making their predictions on who the player would be. The climax of the saga comes on Tuesday with the announcement of Polish center-back Jan Sobociński.

Jan Sobociński comes from Polish side LKS Lodz, pronounced “L-Ka-S Wootch”. Seriously, go find it. Originally from Lodz, he made 44 appearances in the Polish second division and 27 in the first division for Lodz.

Currently sitting in second place in the Second Division, Lodz has been back and forth between La Liga 1 and Polish Premier League Ekstraklasa. After receiving a short loan, Sobociński again had the option of moving after relegation from Lodz.

He chose to continue with Lodz before Charlotte FC came along with their approach. Charlotte’s unique situation of not starting playing until next year gave Sobociński that extra comfort to stay with her club and finish the season before finally making the jump from her home country to the United States in 2022. .

Sobociński is a young left-handed center-back. At 21, he’s a promising prospect and will provide a great basic defensive piece to build on. A good passer, a great long passer, he will work well in a heavy possession system.

He has represented Poland at the U-20 and U-21 levels. Obtain his first selection for the U21s in September 2019. This gives him a quality experience playing against young nationals from all over the world, mainly during the European qualifiers.

Charlotte’s identity is still under construction but they are starting to put some good fundamental pieces together. Sobociński joins three other players from Charlotte’s lineup, Sergio Ruiz, Riley Mcgree and Brandt Bronico. Give Charlotte three midfielders and her first defender. Surely an attacker will arrive soon …
